I taught a lesson today on how changing the first letter of a word, can create a different word that sounds the same and looks almost the same as the original word. I began with the word "to" and asked my students if I were to take the 't' off of the word and replace it with a 'd', I would get the word "do"! I showed the students a couple of words and went back and forth replacing the first letter with a new letter. Once we finished the lesson, I had students back at their seats, complete a template of words that I came up with for them to change the first letter. They students did a fabulous job with this activity!
During our Math lesson, the students learned a deeper understanding of Counting on to Subtract. Together, we worked through a couple of work book pages and incorporated a bingo chip as a counter to move across the number path as a math strategy.
