Happy Friday!
This morning the students worked on story telling by creating a small story using parts of a story and using First, Next and Last. Mrs. Gamber read The New Bear at School which told a story about a bear who is new at a school and doesn't have many friends. The students were scared of his size and thought this would play a factor in his friendship skills. The bear turns out to become the hero at the end of the story and the students in his class LOVE him for it!
We did a craft in which we constructed a bear, chose a name, then the students wrote a story about what happened First, Next, and Last based on the story The New Bear at School. The stories that they came up with were great!! We glued the story onto their bear and will be hanging them in the hallway.
We then read the story The Name Jar.
"The new kid in school needs a new name! Or does she? Being the new kid in school is hard enough, but what about when nobody can pronounce your name? Having just moved from Korea, Unhei is anxious that American kids will like her. So instead of introducing"
The students really enjoyed this story. I created an activity for the students to do once we finished reading. (Found on Pinterest of course!!) I had all their names written on a large piece of paper, and had them glue little pieces of colored construction paper on each letter of their names. They turned out so nicely!
Room 108 is FULL of color and we LOVE our names :)
For Math we played a Name Bingo Game. Each student's names were randomly placed on a Bingo card sheet. Mrs. Gamber would call out a student's name, and our students would put a chip over the name. They enjoyed hearing their names being called out loud!
Looking forward to a peaceful, planning weekend!
