At the beginning of the day, Mrs. Gamber read Chrysanthemum to the whole group. During the read aloud, the students passed around a large red heart made of paper. When someone in the store was rude and said mean things to Chrysanthemum about her name, the students would crinkle the heart.
Once the story was finished, each student wrote their name on a bandaid. They put the bandaides on the heart, promising that they would be nice and not wrinkle other people's hearts. The moral of the story was that the students must think before they speak. They cannot take back what they say. Just like a paper heart cannot be completely flattened and wrinkle free once it's been crumbled.
We also made a Chrysanthemum craft!
The students worked really hard today and I was so proud! The guidance counselor came in and discussed filling buckets to the students.
She read the book Have You Filled A Bucket Today? After reading, the students completed a handout about how they were planning on filling buckets during the school day. Some of the students wrote ways that they were going to fill MY bucket. My heart was full!!
Later in the afternoon for Math, we created a picture graph on How We Go Home. We have lots of students who ride the bus!
Thankful for a wonderful day. :)
