Today was a really good day. The students came in and knew exactly where to hang up their book bags, they knew to take out their STAR folder and put it in the blue basket. My professor, who will be my student teaching advisor, came to say hello today. We had a fire drill at the beginning of the morning. The students were a little scared, but did a very nice job getting out of the building quickly and quietly!
During the reading portion of our morning, Mrs. Gamber read David Goes to School by David Shannon. The students really enjoyed the story and made text to self connection's about it throughout the day. Once the story was raed, the students went back to their seats while the aide, Mrs. B and I began getting the "David "activity ready. Step-by-step the students were given pieces of paper that they were instructed to cut out to create a paper David. They did a fantastic job cutting, gluing, and putting them together.
They turned out so nicely! I was so proud! I then hung every David up in the hallway as well as a sentence that the students wrote including a rule that they want to follow during the school year.
We began instructing read to self for the daily five. After instructions were given, Mrs. Gamber passed out books that the students would read somewhere in the classroom. They were able to read silently for 1:28. It can only go up from here!
