Jamaica day 6

We I can't believe how quickly this trip went.

A couple of things I have reflected on during this trip is how I will never complain about how hot it is during the school day because none of these schools have air conditioning. I will never throw away school supplies in my classroom. I will always stay patient and find new ways to engage my students with disabilities even when they are nonverbal or in a wheelchair.

Today we are headed to Early education school of 3-6 year old students. We are teaching them simple sign language to help with classroom management.

Today was wonderful! We taught sign language to the students at another elementary school! We received many hugs from the children. I have never felt so loved.

This school has no fans in the classrooms. When they are teaching the students, it is difficult to focus with the heat. Our professor Dr. Schwilk and the rest of the special Ed department chipped in money to buy four fans for the four classrooms that we were in today. It is going to be a surprise to the teachers at our going away party tomorrow.

We taught the students how to sign the entire song of Jesus Loves Me! Complete bliss! We also taught the students many signs including yes,no, thank you, help, bathroom, and play.  The teachers were overjoyed to see us engage with the students.

This trip has taught me to be selfless. It has taught me that a couple hugs and showing children some pictures on your camera can change their lives. It has taught me to reflect on how little a community could have but how happy they could be. It has taught me to never stop smiling because there is always a child looking up at you.

Our house mom told us that her mother started the school that we attending today! A classroom is named after her mother that she started in a church basement!

Her name was Icelyn lynch. Rest her soul!
My roommate and I are lucky to have met this amazing woman!!
