Professional Development at an Open House

"If you don't try, there is no opportunity to succeed."
My colleague and I had an incredible opportunity at Shippensburg University on March 1st 2016 during an Open House for the Elementary Education Program. At the open house, we were able to meet with potential students and discuss all that Shippensburg has to offer in this program. Our professor standing with us is Dr. Slattery, who has impacted my teaching career and life in more ways than one. She is an incredible professor with plenty of knowledge in Reading and Comprehension. The open house could not have gone any better! Many of the students that came to the open house were either already confirmed to Shippensburg or were eager to learn more about this career path. These two hours were circled around meeting so many amazing students who's passions shined through. But also, we were able to demonstrate our passion for this career, too.
During the open house, I had discussed a lot about the opportunities this program brings to their students with being able to be placed in classrooms with teachers and students from grades Pre-K to Fourth grade. I also mentioned how the students are able to work and learn with the lab school on campus. Being able to show future students a copy of work that we have completed was nothing but rewarding. This professional development gave me an idea on the students that were coming into the program but also about what exactly our program has to offer.
